Built in the USA in 1988, this Hamer Californian is a rare find – and quite the score for any needing to get into the highest of registers with 27 frets! We just took it in, and it could be the first that we’ve had here. Everyone has now fallen in love with it.
From the 1980s until the early 1990s the Californians were made in the USA as high quality “super-Strat”, aimed at rockers and shredders that needed a fast playing, extended range guitar – this one features 27 frets. it also has the big logo, and a Hamer licensed Floyd Rose tremolo. The Hamer catalog from way back then described like this:
In a world of look and sound alike guitars the Californian is a stand out: radical styling and unique features for the way you play. We begin with a single piece of light weight Honduras mahogany, the finest of tone woods. A single piece is used to assure that each instrument will speak with a resonance that cannot be achieved by a neck through design. The Californian’s bolt on neck is carved from rock maple, and its exquisite rosewood fingerboard is fretted with twenty seven frets on a 25.5″ scale.
For being over 30 years old, this guitar is in great shape. It does have some dings and finish scratches, but nothing major. The neck is in excellent condition, with plenty of life left in the frets. It has been vetted and set up to play perfectly by the tech in our repair shop. It’s all original, just missing the backplate, and comes with the original hardshell case. This is a unique guitar and hard to find – it won’t last long!
